Its great to know that its possible at late age and in relative quick timeframe to become a professional illustrator as this is a dream for me. Your progress inspires me. I have started in the past 6 month steadily increasing the hours I spend with drawing with my intuos 4. I am now into 25 hours per week and I hope that is enough to really give me the skill eventually that is required to become a professional. I dont mind waiting for 3 years, doing a job I love is a high priority for me and I never liked being a lawyer anyway. But my parents scared me out of becoming what I wanted as I am sure many other are in a similar situation like me. However with reading interviews like yours I understand that this is where my heart is and I am no longer scared and afraid to invest loads of time in it. Any sucess I have and will have will be because interviews like this motivated me. Thank very , very, very much for helping me with such a tough decision.kilonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09850963377968243298noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-164600708862754720.post-33755569515948566292011-09-11T20:14:53.533+01:002011-09-11T20:14:53.533+01:00This comment has been hidden from the blog.Thermoblazehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08844964022346342267noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-164600708862754720.post-7077535978435832842011-08-26T16:34:07.531+01:002011-08-26T16:34:07.531+01:00Good stuff, totally inspired me, thx's guys an...Good stuff, totally inspired me, thx's guys and Alex =))Kungfoowizhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09183418587036216697noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-164600708862754720.post-50397981851999285912011-06-23T14:53:53.971+01:002011-06-23T14:53:53.971+01:00Hi Gareth,

But I've been participating in the IFX 365 day challenge this year and can really feel my skills growing. I harbor the dream of becoming good enough to work professionally in illustration.

Thanks Alex and Koshime, inspiring blog!Garethhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11505103387210949894noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-164600708862754720.post-14023729197094782492011-06-19T20:21:42.808+01:002011-06-19T20:21:42.808+01:00Hi there Marley,

It's all very relevant
Considering that the Uk government is allowing various universities to charge up to £9K per annum, even though is is paid off once a student accrues some moneies and a job, this represents a sizeable debt to the aerage uk student upon graduation.

As such, one choosing to enter concept art would do well to consider a uk based or European based education. And without your personal experiences, such informed decisions for 2011 and beyond are not possibleKoshimehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04153710800206515311noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-164600708862754720.post-61892983693979553532011-06-19T19:09:08.787+01:002011-06-19T19:09:08.787+01:00Hi there,
Just thought I'd put my two pennie...Hi there,

Just thought I'd put my two pennies worth.

I just finished my second year studying animation at Arts University college bournemouth. I did some very extensive research on courses before i applied there. And what I found is that there is very little the UK has to offer in the way of not just concept art type degrees but even traditional art training in universities. Even though I think the Animation course at bournemouth is excellent, there isn't much in the way of competition. So much so that when applying for schools I only applied for one school.

But onto the course. Its a very flexible course. Whatever you want to do they give you the freedom to explore and develop the skills you want to develop.
I forgot to mention but I'm a aspiring concept artist. And from that point of view I have found the course very helpful because, the teachers and even more so your peers push you to do better work. There is a lot of life drawing on the course, so you can sharpen your skills.

They key thing to remember about any course though is that your only going to get from it what you put in.

By the way this is a great blog, It's the kind of thing I would drooling over a few years ago. But luckily for me I made the right choice in terms of schools, but unfortunately many people can't because they don't have the information. hopefully this helps a little.

If anyone wants more info on the course or whatever just email me at markey2d@hotmail.co.ukMark Asafu-Adjayehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09039500248683308395noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-164600708862754720.post-60627679904533064912011-06-19T07:11:09.588+01:002011-06-19T07:11:09.588+01:00Thanks for a great introduction and sharing your j...Thanks for a great introduction and sharing your journey Alex.

I think the main thing is, to relate that anyone can start on this journey, at any time and with enough perseverance, self application and joining up the right dots - to be able to both enjoy and live art.Koshimehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04153710800206515311noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-164600708862754720.post-72873935535345937622011-06-19T06:47:13.486+01:002011-06-19T06:47:13.486+01:00It's amazing how far u have come in such a sho...It's amazing how far u have come in such a short period of time. I've drawn on my own for years and thus I feel like a bit of a hack, but the more I learn about others in the industry, the more I realize there is no one way to successfully become a concept artist.Becky Pennockhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09258091467287799520noreply@blogger.com
